I Visited the Destination of My Dreams: The Sahara Desert

Posted

Ever since I saw Disney’s Aladdin for the first time, I fell in love with the North African culture and aesthetics. I used to beg my mom to read me anything she could find on Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt every night before bed. And that’s how my love for the dreamy, perfectly sculpted desert Sahara came to life.

We decided to visit the Sahara right after India since we heard it is best to visit the desert between October and April when daytime temperatures are bearable. (Just in case you were wondering, you should avoid visiting Sahara in December and January because the nighttime temperatures are freezing).

I won’t bore you with our trip to Morocco, you can read all about it here. I will, however, share all that happened when we were in the desert.

Once we got to Morocco, we found a tour guide that mentioned we should do a slow march across the dunes and become a part of the great camel caravans. So we did.

And I am so glad we did! The orange dunes and the beauty of this terrain were spectacular! After a 12-hour long drive on the camels, we finally settled down. We gathered around a campfire and spent a night on the Morrocan-styled sheets that laid so seamlessly over the gentle sand. Seeing the stars above the desert was an extraordinary experience.

The next day, early in the morning, we got back to Marrakech.
