Our First Trip: Visiting Mumbai and Getting a Culture Shock, Part I

Posted

So, we packed our bags and headed to see the world.

For our first destination, we chose Mumbai, as it is one of the cities Matt has been talking about for years, ever since we were in college.

Experiencing Mumbai

As soon as we got there, I was surprised by how polite people are. Don’t get me wrong, I was not expecting them to be rude by any means. Still, I loved how people seemed relaxed and open to help us find accommodation and our way through this gigantic city.

We stayed in Mumbai for five days and here’s how the first two days went:

Day #1

The first day we went to Colaba Fish Market, a local market Matt mentioned millions of times, since his brother in law (allegedly!) bought the best fish of his life in this market. The truth about this market? It does smell bad, but people are so friendly, I fell in love with everything they were selling. That day we grabbed a quick bite, got to our room, and went straight to bed. We were exhausted.

Day #2

The next day, we wanted to relax a bit, so we decided to go to Juhu Beach, the longest beach in Mumbai. There, we first tried Indian street food and loved it.

An interesting thing happened when we were walking down the beach. Out of nowhere, we started noticing that people around us, especially girls and young women, are screaming. They were all ecstatic like they saw Brad Pitt walking pass them! And I was right 一 they did see Pitt walking by 一 at least the Bollywood version of it. One of the most famous actors was spotted jogging and the girls went crazy. Ha, who knew we were going to see a celebrity?
